On May 2, the annual 2026 Elks Avalon Spelling Bee took place at the College of the North Atlantic’s Prince Philip Drive Campus. This much-anticipated event brought together talented spellers showcasing their remarkable skills and passion for language.

This year, standout speller Thomas O’Brien emerged victorious. His dedication and hard work have paid off as he now prepares to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the upcoming Canada Super Spelling Bee in Ottawa on July 17-18.
